Asheville Fringe Arts Festival

March 21, 2024 7:00 pm - 12:00 am

Fringe Fest

One World West is a venue for performances & after party this date.  Above is our schedule and you can find out more info for each show/event by visiting ashevillefringe.org/festival-schedule.

The Asheville Fringe Arts Festival celebrates 22 years of experimental, unusual, and out-of-the-box art. More than 60 performances, including dance, theater, puppetry, music, film, and things that defy definition, will take place March 17 – 24, 2024. Tickets are still just $16 with many free offerings as well (Random Acts of Fringe).

The Fringe scene has changed with the loss of two of our favorite venues, The Magnetic Theatre and Sly Grog Lounge, but we are committed to continuing our cultivation of strange and wonderful work that lies outside the mainstream. For example:

Edwin Salas is back for the first time in 4 years with a dark retelling of Hansel and Gretel. Edwin is a prolific local artist and toymaker, recently featured in a short film entitled “Happy Dark Place” by Colby Sexton, local filmmaker and owner of West Ashe Creative and Justin Rabuck of HORSE + HERO & The Big Crafty.

Synamin Vixen, author and performing artist from New Orleans, is presenting “Daughter of a Nymph Divine” at Noir Collective. Her piece is a sensory meditation on grief, pleasure and inviting silence. Audience members will be invited to experience the space through provided headphones.

Following up their 2023 oh- so- fringey and popular My Life In A Bubble, Susan Collard of Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre (in a free Random Act of Fringe performance) will present Drip, drop splash picasso here. Three dancers will frolic in paint outdoors across canvas and paper to create a wild environment of movement and colors.

In an unique site-specific evening outdoor performance in the Foundy St. district, Vermont choreographer and educator Nathalie Jonas will present This is How I Imagine It. The work will transform the interior of a rented truck into a space of encounter.

The popular Fringe Short Film Night is back, with two programs of short films from Asheville and all over the world. Screening Monday March 18th at the Grail Moviehouse.

The festival showcases an equal mix of locals and artists from around the country. There are 8 venues this year, including the LaZoom Fringe Bus Tour. Returning after a 2 year hiatus, the big purple bus features multiple stops in surprising locations around the River Arts District, as well as live entertainment on board.

Asheville Fringe Arts Festival offers the best of the unexpected. The Fringe Freak Pass is on sale now at ashevillefringe.org! Pass holders can see up to 12 shows for one price. Schedule goes live and individual show tickets go on sale March 1st.
