Asheville-based percussion ensemble, CHIKOMO MARIMBA, will be playing LIVE at One World Brewing West on Haywood Rd on Thursday, October 12th.

This music will make your cheeks hurt from smiling and have you out of your seat in no time. It has been described over and over by audience members as “the happiest music on Earth!” Come find out why!

Chikomo Marimba is inspired by the mbira musical tradition of the Shona people of Central and South Africa and informed by the marimba teaching lineage of “Dumi” Abraham Dumisani Maraire, who brought this style of music from his homeland of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to the North Pacific US in the late 1960’s through the 1980’s, as way of building cultural bridges of mutual appreciation and preserving these ancient songs, many of which were originally played on mbira then later translated to marimba.
The ensemble has existed through constantly evolving iterations for over a dozen years, performing at numerous festivals throughout the southeast as well as on some of Asheville’s greatest stages including The Orange Peel, Salvage Station, White Horse Black Mountain, and more.
