Nurses Benefit Bash

July 28, 2024 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Nurses Benefit

Support local nurses while enjoying live music and craft beer!

Join local community groups at One World Brewing West for a family-friendly benefit concert for nurses at Mission Hospital on Sunday, 7/28 from 12-4.

Music will include performances from Monster Wave and The Rich Nelson Band, and there will be raffle prizes, as well as a chance to hear from nurses about conditions at Mission Hospital and why they might need to go on strike. There will be no entrance fee, but donations are encouraged!

Background: Mission Nurses United is negotiating a new union contract, and may very well need to go on strike to get essential improvements to safety, working conditions, and living wages. As most Ashevillians already know, things have not been going well at Mission: their single-minded pursuit of profits means that staffing cuts and low wages have not only made it a difficult place to work, but also less safe for patients. Our nurses and community deserve better, which is why nurses are fighting for safe staffing among other essential changes.

Nurses have our backs, now we need to have theirs: Asheville DSA, Asheville For Nurses, and Asheville Food and Beverage United have teamed up with rank-and-file nurses to set up a strike fund to keep low-paid nurses afloat while they fight for our community. Even $5 can help keep food on the table and rent paid during the strike!
