Thursday Local Live Music: Patrick French
Patrick French is a North Carolina native, multi-instrumentalist, and singer/songwriter based in Asheville, NC. When speaking of the inspiration behind his music he believes that “a good song can bring you to tears, make you smile through pain or give ya a full belly laugh.” Effortlessly blending genres from Americana, Bluegrass, and Blues, Patrick is a true American roots artist whose songwriting prowess is equal to his guitar playing.
Patrick was raised in High Point, NC and was steeped in traditional Blues thanks to his Louisiana-born parents. Since the age of 18, he has called the Blue Ridge mountains home. Known for his guitar playing, he has spent the past years supporting artists touring the US, playing major festivals (FloydFest, Merlefest and LEAF), and recording albums. He has supported several Asheville artists such as Melissa McKinney (guitar), Ashley Heath (bass), Kathryn O’Shea (banjo, bass guitar) as well as Nashville’s Kevin Daniel (guitar) and Jack Marion and the Pearl Snap Prophets (bass). Patrick is a founding member of the Blues band “Mama and the Ruckus” lead by Melissa McKinney and will be heading to Memphis in 2023 to compete in the International Blues Competition hosted by the Blues Foundation.
This year, Patrick’s guitar work will be featured on Kevin Daniel’s upcoming album “Two Steps Back” released under Organic Records and on the debut EP from Mama and the Ruckus. He will also have vocals on the upcoming Jack Marion and the Pearl Snap Prophets record.
