The purpose of a SMaSH Ale is to ascertain all the properties of a new hop by using a single malt, usually2-Row Barley or Pilsner Malt, and adding the hop at different intervals during the brew. This way you discover both the bittering and aromatic range of thenew hop. Sometimes it just becomes a beer.
